How to Get a Phone Notification
for Every Stripe Sale

WebhookBeam Team October 17, 2026 6 min read

There's nothing like the buzz of a "new sale" notification. It tells you the launch worked, the ad is converting, or that someone just bought from you while you were asleep. Just as useful are the alerts nobody likes: a refund, a failed renewal, or a dispute with a response deadline.

Stripe doesn't push every one of these to your phone by default. Here are four ways to set it up, from the built-in option to fully custom alerts, and when each one makes sense.

  • Just want new payment alerts? Turn on notifications in the Stripe Dashboard app.
  • Want refunds, failed payments, or custom text with the amount? Use a Stripe webhook with a notification service like WebhookBeam.
  • Want a Slack message or spreadsheet row too? An automation tool like Zapier is a good fit.

1. The Stripe Dashboard app

Stripe's own iOS and Android app can send push notifications. In the app, tap your account icon in the top left, go to Global settings → Notification settings, and turn notifications on for your account. Also make sure notifications are allowed for Stripe in your phone's settings.

You can choose from a fixed set of notification types: new payments, new customers, disputed payments, payouts, and a daily summary.

Good for: a quick, free way to see new payments.

Limits:

  • Only those notification types. There's nothing for refunds, failed payments, or cancelled subscriptions.
  • You can't change the text of the notification.
  • It only shows live mode, so you can't try it with test payments.
  • Everyone who wants alerts needs their own login to your Stripe account.

2. Automation tools: IFTTT or Zapier

Services like IFTTT and Zapier can watch Stripe for new payments and then send a notification through another app, a text message, Slack, or email.

Good for: teams that already use these tools and want the same event to go to several places.

Limits:

  • Some triggers check Stripe on a schedule instead of reacting instantly. IFTTT's Stripe-to-Pushover applet, for example, checks every 5 minutes on paid plans and every hour on the free plan.
  • You usually need a second app for the actual push notification.
  • Pricing grows with the number of runs, so busy stores pay more.

3. Build it yourself with a webhook

If you're a developer, you can add a Stripe webhook endpoint to your server and send the alert yourself through Apple Push Notification service, Firebase Cloud Messaging, or an SMS provider like Twilio.

Good for: products that already have their own mobile app.

Limits: you have to build the endpoint, verify Stripe's signatures, handle retries, and maintain the push setup and certificates. That's a lot of work for "ping me when I get paid".

4. A Stripe webhook to WebhookBeam

WebhookBeam gives you the flexibility of option 3 without the code. You get a webhook URL in the WebhookBeam app, add it to Stripe as a webhook destination, and every Stripe event you select arrives on your phone as a push notification within seconds.

Good for: founders and small teams who want instant alerts for specific Stripe events.

  • Any Stripe event. Sales, refunds, failed payments, new or cancelled subscriptions, disputes: anything Stripe can send as a webhook.
  • Your own wording. Each webhook has its own title and description, so a refund alert looks different from a sale.
  • The actual amount and customer. On the Pro plan, placeholders like { data.object.amount_total } fill in real values from each event.
  • All your services in one place. The same app can receive alerts from PayPal, Shopify, LemonSqueezy, RevenueCat, and anything else that sends webhooks.
  • Test mode works. Try everything with Stripe test payments before going live.
  • Phone, desktop, and email. Get alerts on iOS, Android, your web dashboard, or by email.

Limits: the Free plan includes 20 notifications per month, which is enough to try it but not for a busy store. Paid plans start at $2.99/month. See pricing.

Set it up in 5 minutes

  1. Install WebhookBeam for iOS or Android, create a webhook named "New sale", and copy its URL.
  2. In the Stripe Dashboard, open Workbench → Webhooks and click Add destination.
  3. Select checkout.session.completed (Checkout and Payment Links) or payment_intent.succeeded (custom checkout).
  4. Choose Webhook endpoint, paste your WebhookBeam URL, and create the destination.
  5. Make a test payment with the card 4242 4242 4242 4242 and watch your phone.

Which Stripe events are worth an alert?

  • checkout.session.completed or payment_intent.succeeded: every new sale.
  • invoice.paid: subscription payments and renewals.
  • invoice.payment_failed: a renewal failed, so you can reach out before the customer churns.
  • customer.subscription.deleted: a customer cancelled.
  • charge.refunded: money went back to a customer.
  • charge.dispute.created: a chargeback was opened. Disputes have a response deadline, so this is the one alert you really don't want to miss.

A good pattern is to send each type to its own WebhookBeam webhook with its own title, such as "💰 New sale" or "⚠️ Dispute opened", so you know what happened before you even unlock your phone.

FAQ

Does Stripe send push notifications for new payments?

Yes, through the Stripe Dashboard app, for new payments, new customers, disputes, payouts, and a daily summary. For other events or custom text, you need a webhook.

Will a notification webhook break my existing Stripe integration?

No. Stripe sends each event to every destination you register, so the notification webhook runs alongside the endpoint your app already uses.

Do I have to share my Stripe API keys?

Not with WebhookBeam. Stripe sends events to your webhook URL, and you never paste API keys or signing secrets into the app.
